E-mail Troubleshooting

First, check the menu towards the top--for information on common e-mail error messages.

If that does not resolve the problem, you will need to send in troubleshooting information using the following multi-step (but easy) process.

Why?  Because there is a hidden header in the e-mail error message; it has information on which servers the message has passed through and, normally, which server is reporting the problem and why.  Without this information I have to guess and use trial and error to resolve the problem.  Save yourself, and me, days of frustration--send in the attachment.  A verbal description of the error message is seldom effective and a "Forward" will delete the all-important hidden header.

Sending the error message, as an attachment, is not only more effective in all cases, but in some cases absolutely essential.  It takes  little effort, and instead of the problem going on for weeks, it can often be resolved in a matter of days hopefully hours.

To send the error message as an attachment:

  1. Organize your desktop so you will  be able to send the error message as an attachment.  First, reduce your e-mail program to 1/2 the size of your desktop, as shown below.

  1. Then click "New" to send an e-mail.

Reduce the size of the new e-mail message and position it to the right of the e-mail program, as below.

  1. Address the e-mail to evans@gpfind.com

  2. Write a complete, detailed, concise, and accurate account of the events and activities that lead up to the problem.  This should include:
    •  where the computer you are using is located,
    • if you are using a WiFi public access network,
    • if the problem is random, affects e-mails going to or coming from people in your company only, or affects only one recipient.
    • Other details and descriptions.

  3. On your e-mail program's Inbox--Click, Hold, Drag and Drop the error message, dropping it onto the body of your e-mail to Evans.

  4. Check that the error message is now listed as an attachment.

  5. Send the e-mail to Evans.
