E-mail problems are among the most mysterious and frustrating of support
problems.
- It is mysterious because of the complexity of e-mail systems.
- It is frustrating because of the steps required to dig down through the
complexity:
- in order to discover the problem's history
- before being able to diagnose and fix the problem.
Typically you will receive an error message; it will likely tell you that the
message is undeliverable. The problem is that a number of e-mail servers
are involved, and the error messages often do not:
- tell you which server sent the message
- or provide the information needed to diagnose the problem.
Most of the menus towards the top of this page describe what is, perhaps,
happening and why. The Troubleshooting menu item is the most important.
It tells you what is needed to provide the information required to diagnose the
problem.
